The interview is a critical tool in gathering information on child maltreatment. Yet barriers created by cultural differences can interfere with the ability to gain important information, and often lead to misunderstandings and misinformed decision making. This training will address guidelines and strategies for taking culture into account when assessing for child abuse and neglect.
Participants will learn how to:
-
Build rapport with children and their families
-
Minimize language barriers
-
Effective use of interpreters
