This document was developed to further clarify the terminology currently being used in the field of childhood sexual abuse and to assist professionals attempting to determine the significance of ano-genital findings. The glossary was prepared to assist other professionals who conduct or endeavor to interpret child sexual abuse medical evaluations or who may use APSAC's Practice Guidelines: Descriptive Terminology in Child Sexual Avuse Medical Evaluations. Whenever possible the definitions used in this document were taken from those Guidelines. The interpretation used in this document have been derived from studies previously published in peer reviewed journals and a conscious attempt was made to avoid unsubstantiated interpretations of ano-genital findings.
