Interprofessional Teaming is a powerful tool to promote early development. This presentation discusses strategies for supporting the development of teams that address child development specific to the opioid epidemic.

2. Institutional Failure: The Sexual Abuse of over 83,000 Boys in the Boy Scouts of America (Intermediate)

As a career child abuse detective and decade-long Director of Youth Protection for the Boy Scouts of America, Mike Johnson will detail what the Boy Scouts got right and, more importantly, what the organization did wrong that contributed to the sexual abuse of thousands of boys and girls for decades at our nation’s most respected youth serving organization. Detective Mike will also discuss what can be done to prevent future sexual abuse in youth serving organizations.

5. Putting Together a Statewide Forensic Interview Program Through Collaboration (Intermediate)

This session will describe the development of a comprehensive statewide forensic interview program in Wisconsin that includes foundational & advanced training, peer review, mentorship and the statewide collaboration involved.

7. Supportive Services for Families: How Important is the Sibling Relationship of the Non-Abused Child? (Advanced)

2. Institutional Child Sexual Abuse:  Does Bankruptcy Re-victimize the Victims?

As more and more youth serving organizations file bankruptcy as a remedy for sexual abuse litigation as way to avoid the impact of changes to civil statutes of limitations,  it's important to understand the process.  This session will use the Boy Scouts bankruptcy as a case study for how the process works, who advocates for Survivors, and the challenges faced by the Committee appointed to advocate for 82,500 claimants.

6. Strengthening Families through Fathers (Intermediate)

This session will focus on the results of a pilot fatherhood project conducted in Alabama through a partnership with the prevention and child welfare agencies.

7. Sextortion (Beginning)

This block of instruction will focus on the dynamics of sextortion, the victims, the forensic interview and special case considerations when a large number of victims are involved.

8. Child Forensic Interviewing – Should We Be Jumping on the ‘Trauma-Informed’ Bandwagon? 

This workshop will provide an overview of the principles & components of ‘trauma-informed’ interview approaches, including the FETI. It will compare them with established best practices in child forensic interviewing, review concerns about applying adult-focused ‘trauma-informed’ approaches in child forensic interviews, and summarize criticisms being raised about ‘trauma-informed’ responses. It will conclude with a recommendation about the advisability of utilizing adult-focused ‘trauma-informed’ approaches for child forensic interviews.
