Graduate Student/Postdoctoral Fellow Section of Child Maltreatment Editorial Board
Child Maltreatment (CM) is seeking outstanding graduate students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows to serve as members of the Student Section of reviewers, which is adjunctive to the CM Editorial Board. The Student Section provides students an opportunity to gain experience in the scientific peer review and publication processes. Student Section members provide anonymous manuscript reviews under the supervision of a faculty mentor. Once the student review is approved by the faculty mentor, it is included in the journal’s decision and feedback process and forwarded to authors. As with all CM reviewers, students then receive anonymous copies of all other reviews of the manuscript, so that they may compare their analysis and comments with those of recognized experts in the field. Student Section members are encouraged to attend and participate in Editorial Board meetings and discussions but do not serve as Board members. They are expected to complete up to four reviews a year.
A total of six students will be selected to serve 2-year terms from January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2023. Applications are encouraged from students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows of diverse backgrounds and professional disciplines, including psychology, social work, medicine, law, criminal justice, and other areas related to child maltreatment. At the beginning of their term as reviewers, students must have at least 2 years remaining under the supervision of their faculty mentors in their graduate or fellowship programs. Student Editorial Board members will receive a complimentary membership to American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC), the publisher of CM.
Applicants are asked to submit, by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, a single PDF document that includes the applicant’s curriculum vitae (CV), statement of interest, and faculty mentor’s letter of support. The student statement should describe professional area(s) of interest and goals for a 2-year term as student reviewer with CM (no more than two pages, double spaced, 12-point font). The faculty mentor’s letter should indicate the qualifications of the student applicant and the willingness to supervise up to four reviews a year. Application materials are due on November 1, 2021. We anticipate announcement of student selection will be made in by the end of December 2021.
